The Facility Maintenance Technician degree program is designed to provide the students the knowledge and skills for gaining entry-level employment in an industrial facility utilizing skills in HVAC, Welding and Industrial Electronics. Specific training is provided in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining machinery and heavy equipment used in industrial facilities such as automotive, manufacturing, production, and food processing plants. Computer skills needed to operate and troubleshot machinery will be developed to an advanced level. The student will learn the Robotics technology needed for today’s industrial manufacturing facilities. The student will be able to function independently troubleshooting, dismantling and installing various types of industrial equipment including heating, cooling and motors. Print reading skills, logistics for inventory and production management is also included in the training program preparing students for maintenance positions in today’s manufacturing and industrial businesses.
Personal qualities considered essential for this field of employment are: visual acuity, manual dexterity, stamina, communication skills, reading comprehension, and the ability to move and lift heavy equipment safely. Facility Maintenance Technicians must be flexible, demonstrating civility, honestly, and commit to safety in the workplace by abiding by safety rules and regulations. Physical abilities recommended for this field are regular sitting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching at above shoulder height, frequent standing, crouching, bending, flexion (extension/wrist use), continuous walking, and the ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Students completing the courses below and meeting all graduation requirements will receive an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Facility Maintenance Technician.

Nature of Work:
Industrial machinery mechanics and machinery maintenance workers maintain and repair factory equipment and other industrial machinery, such as conveying systems, production machinery, and packaging equipment. Millwrights install, dismantle, repair, reassemble, and move machinery in factories, power plants, and construction sites.
Job Outlook:
Employment of industrial machinery mechanics, machinery maintenance workers, and millwrights is projected to grow 16 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The need to keep increasingly sophisticated machinery functioning and efficient will drive demand for these workers. Job prospects for qualified applicants should be good.
